Hi, i’m Alice, the person behind Soda Club, a locally owned business in Porirua, New Zealand, dreamed up and launched in 2026 during baby nap times.

The Story Behind the Name

My love for carpet deoderiser began when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2019. As a way to combat the nausea I was feeling, I found myself reaching for anything that smelled fresh and clean to help with the aversion to smells. One of the things that I found helped was supermarket carpet deoderiser, the fresh lavender smell and the fact I could pour it on the carpet was just a win win for me. Since that time I’ve always used carpet deoderiser (just a different version now), affectionately named carpet sprinkle after that pregnancy.

Fast forward some years, my sister and I started a cleaning business, and when looking into what we should use for products, we wanted something that we could be confident in using around kids and pets, as well as not filling people’s homes with unessessary chemicals and scary fragrances, therefore going eco made sense to us.

While there are a lot of great products on the market, we began making our own out of basic ingredients, one of these being baking soda. We found that the cleaning power was just as good if not better than the cleaning products available, and what set it apart was that we knew what we were using was the cleanest, safest version of a cleaning product for our clients.

Around that time I began making my own carpet deoderiser, washing powder, and dishwashing powder too, and I found that simple swaps like this lowered the load in our home of unknown chemicals, and it was nice pulling out some skills from my science degree days too.

So, with a lens of health, experience in using eco cleaning products professionally, a science degree majoring in Food Science, and just an overall love for tipping baking soda into carpet, Soda Club was born.
